The walking tour focuses on the Irish and Italian history of the old neighborhood that became known as: Little Italy, and the newly evolving neighborhood of: NoLIta.
Also information about the architecture and history of remaining landmark institutional, religious and residential buildings that help us relate to the neighborhoods past
along with interesting pictures and stories that also help join us with the neighborhoods' past.
This Walking Tour of Little Italy's Past and Present Features:
A walk through the old Little Itally neighborhood that was roughly bounded by: Bleecker St., Lafayette St., Canal St. and the Bowery; and the newly evolving NoLIta (northern Little Italy) gradually developing in the area surrounding the old St. Patrick's Cathedral. Going back to the early 19th century there was a middle income, ethnically mixed, artisan community with hundreds of 1 family (2 story) Federal styled homes that spread across the area - we will see a landmark survivor of one of the Federal style homes from 1817, along with 12 stops that include 8 New York City landmarks and 7 national landmarks. All stops are fully discussed.
